# Introduction to Cotizave

> Current coverage, languages, currencies and first steps with the API.

## What the API provides

Cotizave publishes exchange-rate references for application integrations. The coverage currently documented is **Venezuela**, with quotes against the bolívar (`VES`). Your server calls `https://api.cotizave.com/v1/`. Cotizave does not move money or execute currency exchanges.

## Available rates

BCV publishes official USD/VES and EUR/VES references. Cotizave also exposes a parallel-market reference, normalised P2P quotes and, depending on the plan, remittance, extended and cash markets. See the [market directory](/en/api/endpoints/get-rate-by-market#request). The parallel reference is received and normalised; it is not presented as a multi-source weighted average calculated by Cotizave.

## Use cases

Query rates, display estimated conversions, chart historical data or receive webhooks. For invoices, retain the applied reference and its value date. Selecting a rate and applying tax or business rules are separate decisions.

All plans, including Gratis, allow rates to be integrated into your application, including when other businesses use it or you charge for the software. No plan includes rights to resell or redistribute the data as an independent product; that use requires a special licence. See [data use and attribution](/en/data-use).

## HTTP contract

The API uses HTTPS, `X-API-Key` authentication and JSON by default. Most queries use GET; bulk conversion uses POST. Errors include `code` and `message`, with optional `field` and `details`. Dates and timestamps use ISO 8601 formats; history groups records by UTC.

## Availability

Each source has its own update cadence. Inspect `updated_at`, `effective_date` and available freshness fields. Cotizave does not offer a contractual SLA; any credit is assessed case by case. Check [service status](https://status.cotizave.com/).

## Languages and countries

Documentation is available in **Spanish and English**. Language changes explanations, not HTTP paths, field names or security signatures. A developer in Australia can read this same API in English, but that does not add AUD data.

Planned expansion to other countries does not mean coverage is available. When APIs for Australia, Argentina or other countries are introduced, their currencies, parameters, responses and specific conditions will have a separate reference within this site. Endpoints for those countries are not currently documented as available.
