# BCV: rates by bank

> Retrieve buy and sell rates by institution and the date of each row.

`GET /v1/fx/bcv/banks` · All plans. Returns the USD buy/sell table obtained from BCV. It differs from the aggregate official `reference` rate.

<span id="request" />

## Request

Returns the latest available snapshot. No parameters required; supports [formats](/en/api/formats). The old `/v1/beta/fx/bcv/banks` route has been removed.

Run these examples on your server. JavaScript and Python use the clients in the [quickstart](/en/api/quickstart#paso-2); configure `COTIZAVE_API_KEY` there.

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash curl theme={null}
  curl --fail-with-body --max-time 10 "https://api.cotizave.com/v1/fx/bcv/banks" \
    -H "X-API-Key: $COTIZAVE_API_KEY"
  ```

  ```javascript Node.js theme={null}
  import { cotizave } from './cotizave.mjs';
  const data = await cotizave('/v1/fx/bcv/banks');
  console.log(data);
  ```

  ```python Python theme={null}
  from cotizave import cotizave
  data = cotizave('/v1/fx/bcv/banks')
  print(data)
  ```
</CodeGroup>

<span id="response" />

## Response

Illustrative response: figures and dates are not current quotes.

```json theme={null}
{
  "indicator_date": "2026-10-19",
  "bank_rates": [
    {
      "bank": "Banesco",
      "buy": 474.5,
      "sell": 475.5,
      "date": "2026-10-19",
      "stale": false,
      "days_behind": 0
    },
    {
      "bank": "Banco Exterior",
      "buy": 470.5,
      "sell": 471.5,
      "date": "2026-10-16",
      "stale": true,
      "days_behind": 3
    }
  ],
  "captured_at": "2026-10-19T21:00:00Z"
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `indicator_date` | Date of the main bank-rate publication. |
| `bank_rates[].bank` | Institution name as it appears in the source. |
| `buy`, `sell` | USD buy and sell quotes, in VES per USD. |
| `date` | Publication date for that row. |
| `stale` | `true` when the row date differs from `indicator_date`. |
| `days_behind` | Days behind `indicator_date`, minimum zero. |
| `captured_at` | Snapshot capture time. |

<span id="casos-uso" />

## Compare banks

Rows from the main publication appear before older rows. To compare one publication day, filter `stale === false` and display the date. Do not silently average rows from different days.

<span id="errores" />

## Errors

`404 bcv_snapshot_unavailable` indicates that no snapshot is available.

The [common errors](/en/api/errors) for authentication, quota and availability also apply. API error responses are JSON; branch on `code`, not on the text of `message`.

<span id="notas" />

## Freshness by row

A recent capture may contain older rows. `captured_at` does not replace `date` or `stale`. For the official USD/VES rate, use [reference](/en/api/endpoints/get-rate-by-market); a bank’s buy and sell columns are not that reference.
