# Cotizave Index

> Weighted BCV, parallel and P2P reference, with components and quality flags.

`GET /v1/fx/index` · All plans · One quota unit. Returns an informational reference in VES per USD.

<span id="request" />

## Request

No parameters required. Supports [response formats](/en/api/formats).

Run these examples on your server. JavaScript and Python use the clients in the [quickstart](/en/api/quickstart#paso-2); configure `COTIZAVE_API_KEY` there.

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash curl theme={null}
  curl --fail-with-body --max-time 10 "https://api.cotizave.com/v1/fx/index" \
    -H "X-API-Key: $COTIZAVE_API_KEY"
  ```

  ```javascript Node.js theme={null}
  import { cotizave } from './cotizave.mjs';
  const data = await cotizave('/v1/fx/index');
  console.log(data);
  ```

  ```python Python theme={null}
  from cotizave import cotizave
  data = cotizave('/v1/fx/index')
  print(data)
  ```
</CodeGroup>

<span id="response" />

## Response

Illustrative response: figures and dates are not current quotes.

```json theme={null}
{
  "value": 522.3765,
  "version": "v1",
  "as_of": "2026-10-19T17:29:15Z",
  "weights": {
    "bcv": 0.3,
    "paralelo": 0.2,
    "p2p": 0.5
  },
  "components": {
    "bcv": 475.0083,
    "paralelo": 538.87,
    "p2p": 544.2
  },
  "p2p_median": 544.2,
  "p2p_count": 7,
  "flags": {},
  "methodology_url": "https://cotizave.com/docs/cotizave-index"
}
```

`value` is rounded to four decimal places. `version` identifies the methodology; do not prepend another `v`. `as_of` is the snapshot timestamp, not the request time. `weights` holds effective weights, `components` holds included values, and `p2p_count` is the number of markets remaining after filtering. `flags` is `{}` when no flag applies. `methodology_url` links to the methodology.

| Flag | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `bcv_stale` | BCV is over 132 hours old; its weight becomes zero. This is a calculation rule, not legal-calendar validation. |
| `degraded` | Between 1 and 3 P2P quotes remain. With none, `missing_sources` is used instead. |
| `missing_sources` | Missing components: `bcv`, `paralelo` or `p2p`. Their weights become zero. |
| `outliers_excluded` | P2P markets excluded for deviating more than 50% from the initial median. |

<span id="metodologia" />

## Calculation

```text theme={null}
Index = BCV × 0.30 + Parallel × 0.20 + P2PMedian × 0.50
```

Missing components and BCV flagged as stale receive zero weight; remaining weights are normalised to sum to one. Read the [full methodology](/en/cotizave-index).

<span id="casos-uso" />

## Display the index

```javascript theme={null}
import { cotizave } from './cotizave.mjs';
const index = await cotizave('/v1/fx/index');
console.log(`${index.value.toFixed(4)} VES/USD (${index.version})`);
console.log({ as_of: index.as_of, flags: index.flags, weights: index.weights });
```

Use the client from the [quickstart](/en/api/quickstart#paso-2). Retain the value, version, components and timestamp when recording estimates.

## Informational reference

The index is neither an official rate nor an executable quote. It does not replace the rate required for an invoice, contract or settlement.

<span id="errores" />

## Errors

`503 service_unavailable` when no usable component remains. In `/rates`, a calculation failure may omit `index` without invalidating the other rates.

The [common errors](/en/api/errors) for authentication, quota and availability also apply. API error responses are JSON; branch on `code`, not on the text of `message`.
